IEC calls for an end to attacks on its independence.

JOHANNESBURG – Independent Electoral Commission chief executive Sy Mamabolo calls for an end to attacks on the Commission.

Some political parties and organizations question the independence of the CEI in the run-up to the elections.

Mamabolo claims that no one will influence the commission.

He also says it is standard practice to meet with diplomats before elections.

This after the electoral commission met with the US ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigedty, earlier this week.

Calls are being made for the minutes of the meeting to be made public.

Mamabolo says nothing untoward has happened.
