Classmate Says Teen Boaters Who Litter Are Unfairly Scrutinized: ‘Litter Happens Everywhere’

BOCA RATON, Florida. – Although many people have expressed their indignation at a In a viral video showing teenagers dumping trash in South Florida waters over the weekend, one of their classmates defends them.

A Boca Raton Community High School student who did not want to give his name said he was on the boat with the perpetrators during Sunday’s Boca Bash.

“I saw a lot of trash,” the student said. “I wasn’t saying anything about it, but I said, ‘Make sure it goes in the trash.’”

The video, however, shows that the teenagers did the opposite.

That classmate said his fellow students’ actions are being unfairly scrutinized.

“Litter happens everywhere, all over the world,” that classmate said. “We are terrorizing 15-year-old children over trash. Yes, I know they are stupid, but at the same time, we all need to realize that Florida is full of trash.”

However, officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission don’t see it that way and are investigating. Officials said they are working with Palm Beach County prosecutors to determine appropriate charges.

Local 10 News will not identify those involved until authorities release their names.
