Dynamos lose key trio – NewsDay

Dynamos will be without the influential trio of captain Frank Makarati, vice-captain Emmanuel Jalai and midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa for the trip to Chicken Inn this weekend.

The two title-chasing teams meet at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday in a league match that both teams are struggling to win.

But Dynamos will go into the crucial match without Makarati and Shandirwa due to injuries, while Jalai, who rarely misses a match for his club, is suspended after accumulating three yellow cards.

Shandirwa, who has been in and out of the team this season, also missed Dynamos’ match against Ngezi Platinum Stars last week.

There is also disappointment for Makarati, who is back on the sidelines after recently recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for the first five games of the season.

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe, who must win the match to secure his future at the club, admitted that the absence of the trio is a blow to his team.

However, he is confident that the substitutes will do a good job.

“It is a major setback, but it gives us the opportunity to test new players who will now have to prove themselves,” Mangombe told reporters yesterday at the club’s weekly press conference.

“We have guys who want to prove themselves, guys who are desperate to show they can play too. It’s an opportunity for new players and those who haven’t played or featured in the top 11 to show what they can do.”

The good news in the Dynamos camp is that youngster Elton Chikona, who missed the team’s last few matches due to injury, is back and expected to play a key role in Bulawayo.

The striker was one of the goalscorers when Dynamos beat Chicken Inn last season.

“He’s back,” Mangombe confirmed. “I am happy that he is available and will be selected in the final 18-man squad.”

Dynamos and Chicken Inn come into the game looking to get back to winning ways after last week’s disappointing results.

The Harare giants suffered a thrilling 2-2 draw against defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars on Sunday, a day after Chicken Inn were beaten 2-1 in Yadah.
