Bahir Dar City in title race after Dire Dawa win

Bahir Dar City firmly entered the title race with a resounding 1-0 win over Dire Dawa City, while Adama City heaped more misery on Shashemene City with a 1-0 win in the Ethiopian Premier League clashes Thursday at Hawassa University Stadium.

Adama City’s goal came in the 49th minute thanks to Nebil Nuri.

The victory moves Adama City from sixth to fifth place in the league standings with 37 points.

They are three points behind fourth-placed Bahir Dar City, which has 40 points.

Meanwhile, Shashemene City began their journey at Hawassa City with a defeat, which now means they have failed to win in their last seven games.

He has also not scored a goal in his last six games.

Bahir Dar City’s 1-0 victory over Dire Dawa City further reinforces their reputation as the most in-form team in the league.

It was a win that catapults them firmly into the title race with CBE, Mekelakeya and St George, now making it a four-horse race.

This was Dire Dawa’s first defeat in their last 11 matches, a run in which they won six matches and drew four to put them in eighth place with 33 points, a good return for coach Shimels Abebe since he took over.

However, Bahir Dar City have also been unbeaten in their last nine matches, winning six and scoring 10 goals and only conceding three times.

Habtamu Tadesse’s 17th minute goal was all they needed to claim three points which saw them leapfrog defending champions St George into third place.

The Horsemen now find themselves in fourth place with Bahir Dar firmly in the title race, and just one point behind second-placed Mekelakeya and six points behind leaders CBE.

The team is just four points behind Kedus Giorgis, which currently occupies third place, and just four points behind second-placed Mechal.
