Rivers crisis: Dele Momodu reveals the cause of the fight between Wike and Fubara

Veteran journalist Dele Momodu has suggested why Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, are fighting.

Momodu said the political rivalry between Wike and Fubara was over control of the Rivers State treasury.

The leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) revealed this in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today program on Thursday night.

Fubara and Wike have been feuding since the governor took office on May 29, 2023.

The fight affected the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen and some state commissioners loyal to both parties.

President Bola Tinubu intervened in the crisis and convinced both factions to sign a peace pact.

Despite the peace agreement, both parties and their loyalists have continued the cold war.

Speaking about the fight, Momodu said: “They are fighting in Rivers just because of politics. They also need Rivers’ money.

“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him to also take over the state not only to give them votes, but also a money structure, a structure to have direct access to the treasury. “Rivers State plays an important role in elections in Nigeria.”
