Man arrested after brandishing knife at customers at Nelson KFC

A man has been arrested after he reportedly brandished a knife at customers at a KFC in Nelson this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said they responded to a reported assault on Tahunanui Drive at a business premises, reported at 7.27pm.

One person has been arrested and investigations continue.

The owner of a neighboring business told the Herald Security camera captured a man walking with a large kitchen knife in his hand as he passed by his store.

One person commented on Facebook: “My mom was there at the time and a guy came in brandishing a really big knife in everyone’s face. They had to call the police and when they ran out, they were all locked up. Free chips though.”

Another person commented “Actually 4 people attacked another customer. This scared all the customers and staff.”

A KFC spokesperson said they are aware of an incident that took place at their Nelson store.

“Thankfully no customers or staff were injured and the police were called immediately,” the spokesperson said.
