The Ministry of the Interior renews the curfew in Bawku

The Ministry of the Interior renewed by executive instrument the curfew imposed in the municipality of Bawku and its surroundings in the Upper East region.

The curfew hours starting from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. came into effect from Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

In a statement, the Ministry government called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people in the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges they face, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies to ensure peace. .

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all people from carrying weapons, ammunition or any type of offensive weapon.

The Ministry has warned that anyone found with weapons or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

The renewal of the curfew comes after a confrontation that took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 24.

It involved some heavily armed soldiers and Prison Service staff in a tense standoff.

The incident occurred when military personnel requested the release of two individuals who took refuge in the prison courtyard to evade arrest.

These individuals had reportedly caused disturbances during the official launch of Bawku Naba’s 40th anniversary celebration, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka, at his palace.
