Chelsea’s Pochettino calls for an end to “stupid” exit rumors

Mauricio Pochettino has called for an end to “stupid rumours” about his future at Chelsea and insisted he will see out the final year of his contract unless the club tells him otherwise.

The 52-year-old has endured a tumultuous first season at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea struggling to qualify for Europe next season, despite owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital spending more than £1bn (1.25bn million dollars) in new players since its acquisition in 2022.

Pochettino has faced dismissal chants from disgruntled fans, who also chanted former manager Jose Mourinho’s name, but Thursday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham leaves Chelsea just two points off seventh place, which would be enough to secure a Europe. Place in the Conference League next season.

Speculation persists that Pochettino’s job could be at risk and he told Sky Sports after beating Spurs that “it was difficult to see every week that I am under scrutiny.”

Pressed further on this issue, Pochettino stated: “We had talked about the trial at the end of the season, if I feel like I’m under scrutiny.

“That was people’s question. But it’s like (we) have to prove, after all these circumstances and this whole situation, that we deserve to be here next season. I say, ‘Who’s going to judge me?'”

“I need to judge myself and all the players and, of course, with all the circumstances (of the season).

“But I wanted to say that enough with this kind of rumors. If I have one more year of contract here and nobody says anything, (I guess) I’ll be here. (That changes) only if then we finish the season and someone tells me ‘ ciao’.

“Because we don’t know at this moment. I suppose I have one more year on my contract and I’m going to be here. But enough of the stupid rumours. We have to ask the club if they want me to continue.” or not, don’t write things that don’t make sense.
