Gasoline and diesel prices increase in annual variation – KNBS

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Wednesday released data showing that the cost of most essential commodities had recorded an annual increase.

This included gasoline, diesel and kerosene. which are key determinants of the cost of living.

According to KNBS data, gasoline and diesel prices increased by 8 and 11.2 percent respectively.

Kerosene, on the other hand, had one of the largest price increases, with a change of 16.6 percent.

Cooking gas, which is sometimes used as an alternative fuel source, is also recorded a price increase of 3.4 percent.

It should be noted that although fuel costs have registered an annual increase in prices, for the month of April 2024, gasoline and diesel prices registered a drop.

Gasoline prices decreased by 2.7 percent, while diesel prices fell by 5.2 percent.

Even though Kenya experienced good rains late last year, prices of most agricultural products recorded an annual increase compared to April 2022 and April 2023, when the country experienced one of the longest droughts in the world. recent history.

Consumers were the most affected when they purchased onions as an agricultural product. recorded a price increase of 71 percent.

Oranges, avocados and tomatoes increased their prices by 17.9, 15.9 and 10.8 percent respectively.

Other commodities that increased in price include; Sugar (9.2 percent), potatoes (5.3 percent) and cooking oil (3.1 percent).

Kales popularly known as Sukuma Wiki A 2.8 percent increase in prices was also recorded with beans recording a marginal 0.7 percent increase.
