It was an unforgettable night for 17-year-old Josh-Kofi Acheampong as the England-born Ghanaian youngster made his long-awaited debut for Chelsea in their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Making his first senior appearance under Mauricio Pochettino, Acheampong did not look out of place on the big stage, making four successful blocks, the most of any player on the field.

With Chelsea’s injury crisis creating opportunities, the teenager seized his moment with both hands and put in an assured performance at right-back replacing fellow academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist in the 85th minute.

The teenager’s rapid rise through the Chelsea ranks has highlighted his immense potential. His pace, tenacity and versatility have seen him excel and rise. He can play as a centre-back, right-back or full-back.

This season, Acheampong has made eight appearances for Chelsea’s under-18 team, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
After starring for Chelsea, Acheampong earned his first call-up to the senior team in January 2024 and was an unused substitute in several games while gaining valuable experience.

Having signed his first professional contract with Chelsea until 2026, Acheampong will have many more opportunities as the Blues continue to battle injuries at the back.
